Sylvia Ji Dreamy Paintings

_sylviali_3

San Fransisco native Sylvia Ji‘s portraits are symbolic reflections of herself and people she knows, beautiful curvy women with dreamy landscape and rainbows of colors. I Love her style, and especially the ones from her collection called ‘Por Vida’ where she recreates her own vision of the Dia de la Muerte. See some pics of herself and her exhibition at the Corey Helford Gallery, and watch her video interview bellow.

Song of the Day : [02/13]

Alexis Taylor : Baby

rubbed-out

I always privately thought that Hot Chip were the electro equivalent to the Beatles. Many of their songs are have a simple beauty to them… their lyrics are repetitive and the melodies are uncomplicated, but teamed with some sort of magic, the music is irresistible. On Hot Chip’s frontman Alexis Taylor’s solo debut, ‘Rubbed Out‘,  he finally gives me reason to voice the comparison out loud. Not only does he cover Paul Mccartney’s “Coming Up” beautifully -[download Alexis Taylor's version for free here] – but his original compositions like “Baby” sound like something straight out of the fab four’s catalogue.

Fashion Bloggers Unite

Yuli Ziv co-founder of Style Coalition and owner of www.myitthings.com

There are some really interesting articles about the Fashion Bloggers and what’s next for them : “Too many blogs, reviewing too much of the same content, sometimes poorly written and failing to add anything new to the fashion conversation. Even the term ‘fashion blogger’ itself is somehow tainted, also bringing to mind the words ‘low quality’ and ‘poorly researched.’” Today I came across few wonderful articles which show that some bloggers may be taking this to heart : The First one is The New York Observer and the second one  The Business of Fashion – It seems that fashion bloggers are not taken seriously by the fashion world, and they are fighting to get their own spot at fashion shows to be able to plug their laptop and live blog about the shows. They are starting to create a community for fashion bloggers by fashion bloggers. I can bet that in the near future, Fashion blogs ( the big ones ) will be as important as print publications ! “The Style Coalition will serve as an umbrella for a collection of blogs, like a more intimate version of Glam Media, a content network of more than 900 Web sites geared toward women and fashion,” reports the New York Observer. – Check also InsideTheTents.com the site which is working on an interesting project of covering live the Mercedes Fashion in Bryant Park, NY. Fashion Bloggers what is your future ?! I can predict that if you work hard, and review interesting content, your future will be successful…

All is Fair in Fashion and the Free World

jason-wu_ikram

Few can recall a time when even the top names in fashion had to undergo a screen test at the gates of the white house. So who is this gatekeeper that is helping make or break new and old designers alike…Apparently high-end Chicago retailer Ikram Goldman, owner of Ikram boutique, is the woman standing between the first lady and the fashion world. Ms. Goldman was the main person with whom designers commissioned to submit sketches for Michelle Obama’s inaugural weekend wardrobe had any contact with. While some see this as a negative departure from previous first ladies who have gone directly to the designers of their interest, having a fashion savvy stylist guarding Ms. Obama’s wardrobe could open the door for up and rising stars like Jason Wu whose business has increased three-fold since Michelle Obama wore his dress on inaugural night.
