Seattle based artist Micheal Leavitt is making a statement with cardboard. He is using a material as frivolous as cardboard to create life size sculptures of objects that relate directly to sub-cultures of people. I was calling it Pop Art but I think Safe Art may be a better category for it. One could argue the use of the word Art in this equation at all. I mean we all know how large and fanatic the sneaker heads are so by creating cardboard sculptures of some of the most popular models in footwear he is essentially… READ MORE

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s : Hysteric

The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s are about to release a new album. We have here for you a sneak peak slice of their awesomeness. It seems Karen O and her bandmates have become progressively less weird and more palatable over the course of their 2 most recent albums. Personally I liked them better at their sassiest and most abstract. I dont know, maybe Karen started meditating and no longer feels the need to scream in her songs for release. She did after all name this album “Its Blitz!” which suggests she has found some form of nirvana. Whatever the case, I still have much love for them, always. Below, one of my favorite test tracks, “Hysteric”, off their newest album.

After Gary Salter Photography here is an other great photographer, Holger Pooten from Horton-Stephens a London photography Agency. Holger is not really what we can call a Fashion photographer, but his flicks are really interesting, the impossibility in his work is captivating and executed in a way that makes you wonder how it was done ( of course some photoshop involved ). Besides his personal work he’s also shot for big clients like Adidas, Nike, Neo2, and Vogue. Be sure to see more of his work here

Vanessa Beecroft is known for her performance art based on social and cultural commentary. Her images are extremely striking and her concepts deeply evolved. “There is a passive aggressive beauty to this art,” said Roberta Smith for the New York Times, and I couldn’t agree more with that comment on a general social perception of her art, but to me it mixes so many of the elements that I lust for in life, art, and expression things such as color, warm minimalism, the unrefined yet completely fabricated all in one teaspoon, attention to human body and abstraction of our everyday perception. I love her work and am extremely excited to visit her new exhibition with Deitch which just opened on Friday.

So we’ve all seen the video of hello kitty teaming up with Mac cosmetics but have we all seen the Hello Kitty hospital in Taiwan?? The hospital has branded its maternity ward in head to toe pink, from uniform to incubators, in hope that patients will recover sooner. It’s officially licensed by Hello Kitty’s owners.
The hospital Director Tsai Tsung-chi said he hopes the cutesy kitty that is one of the world’s most recognisable characters will ease the pain and fear associated with childbirth and being admitted into hospital.

Pain is pain to me but can’t be bad to look at right?
