British designer Tim Soar showcased his menswear collection entitled “Folding Diagrams for a Spread Squash”, further elaborating , ”A spread squash consist of pulling in (nearly) opposite directions to form a new shape within an existing base.” I love that metaphor for deconstruction, though I am not really seeing much of that in this collection. His years of moonlighting as a DJ and his desire to perfect the fit of menswear is displayed almost on a subconscious level, all while exuding an effortlessly cool vibe.

Mayer Hawthorne : Just Ain’t G

It is hard to differentiate him from the genre of artists Mayer Hawthorne draws his inspiration from, including music of Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, and the legendary songwriting and production trio of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland Jr. I was shocked when I saw a picture of this dude and found out this music was contemporary, but apparently so was Peanut Butter Wolf, when Hawthorne brought him his music for consideration of representation under Wolf’s, Stones Throw Label. “He showed me two songs and I didn’t understand what I was listening to,” Wolf recalls. “I asked him if they were old songs that he did re-edits of – I couldn’t believe they were new songs and that he played all the instruments.” I had that same feeling, it’s shocking! Album hits this Fall so keep your ears open.
