Nouvelle Vague : Teenage Kicks

Nouvelle Vague is French for New Wave, a more than appropriate name for the musical artists as making covers of new wave tracks is clearly their forte, as well as post punk and punk rock. Their renditions of the songs absolutely do the originals justice, a rare talent in comparison with others’ not-so-successful attempts at covering bands. The French artists infuse jazz, bossanova, reggae, and even country and bluegrass influences creating beautiful interpretations that one would never guess to complement the originals so damn well. Their music would be most picturesque if ears could see. They’ve three albums of the “cover” sort and it is a hard decision if asked to choose a favorite – Nouvelle Vague (their self-titled debut album) released in 2004, Bande à Part released in 2006, and 3 released in 2009. Teenage Kicks from Nouvelle Vague’s first album is a playful, cheerful, female take on the original Undertones version; perfect for a sunny, laze-about-on-the-hammock day.

South East Asia brings us one of the most humorous of ad campaigns for a children’s play product: Play-Doh – Safe no matter what you make. One would definitely assume these ads are not targeted at the children themselves but, rather, at the younger generation of parents that would view these pictures and not create an unnecessary angry protest about it.

To those with a sense of humor and an accepting view of reality, flipping through a magazine and coming across these would cause quite the chuckle. Surely children [or the majority of them at least] wouldn’t actually mold such intricately creepy Play-Doh sculptures as these that would tend to make a parent very, very worried. They are merely implying that Play-Doh is better for children than, say, playing violent video games, copying their overly rebellious teenage brother’s actions, or watching R-rated movies.

For the Love of Fashion

I was introduced to this Luxirare recently and have had a great time exploring the range of creativity present on the beautifully curated site. I can not really imagine a marriage of two more fitting things than fashion and food and to see them served up in this way brings light to my world. Featured here is an outfit created by the faceless gal behind Luxirare. She created this mesh two-piece ensemble to compliment the Margiela jacket, shown here as well, as a result of having nothing suiting to wear it with. Not a bad spurt of creativity if you ask me. I have only highlighted one of her garments but you should not miss Luxirare’s Michael Jackson Memoribilia as well as other pieces you can see on the site.
As for the Gastronomic goodness I have highlighted a range of Luxirare’s edible goods to give you a better idea of the entire aesthetic.
