Paris Fashion Week SS 2010 Runway Review

BALENCIAGA SS2010

Wow! Paris Fashion Week SS 2010 was jammed packed with goodness, as to be expected from Paris. So many collections, so much detail, and so much range. Paris fashion week managed to combine the strengths of New York, London, and Milan all in one week this round. My favorite collections to narrow it down were Balenciaga, Balmain, Chloe & Celine (i’ll elaborate on the junction with the ~ and percent ~ in a moment), Gareth Pugh, Kenzo, LanvinMcQueen, and Tim Hamilton.  But all the designers and looks featured here were the best of Paris fashion week so open your eyes and enjoy the edit that took days and days to produce. BALMAIN SS 2010

Balenciaga because Nicolas never fails to deliver a whole new thing, something that without a doubt will be emulated and straight up copied for seasons to come. His silhouette and use of contrasting leathers to create tonality was brilliant, and that girl just looks so bad-ass chic.

MARGIELA SS 2010

TIM HAMILTON SS 2010

CHLOE SS 2010-2

CHLOE SS 2010-1

I loved both Chloe and Celine and as I was certain that Phoebe Philo (Celine) would bring forward something I could truly aspire to I cant say I had such optimistic premonitions about Chloe. Ever since Philo left Chloe there has been a serious missing link for me, though there are always bits and pieces I feel work well. For SS 2010 it was like Phoebe Philo and Hannah MacGibbon (former assistant to Philo at Chloe and current designer of Chloe) sat down and discussed their inspirations together. Though the collections were thoroughly distinguishable a very similar aesthetic was present in both. I loved how chic and streamlined the Celine collection looked, something to that effect was definitely absent in the current market.

CELINE SS 2010-2

HERMES SS 2010

HAIDER ACKERMAN SS 2010

RICK OWENS SS 2010

GARETH PUGH SS 2010

I was also very excited by Gareth Pugh’s collection for SS 2010. You can see that he tried really hard to tone himself down and I think it’s brilliant. This collection is a translation of art meets sellibility. More often than not I can appreciate his concepts but just feel the execution is too dramatic, much closer to art than fashion.

WUNDERKIND SS 2010

HUSSIEN CHALAYAN SS 2010

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SS 2010-2

McQueen never seizes to amaze me with his tailoring and lately, with his prints. It is always a performance with him but when you subtract the shoes, make-up and hair from the equation you get every fashionistas dream dress, and that is what makes him one of a kind. On the runway his girls extraterrestrial but take that outfit out of his fantastic context and many woman can pull it off. Just mind blowing!
