Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi is 23 year old Chaz Bundick of South Carolina. At first listen his music might fall into the chill wave/glo-fi genre that has been made so popular over the past year by artist such as Washed Out and Neon Indian, but personally, I think Bundick transcends the genre’s distinct sound. Yes, the Electronic/Psychedelica elements are there, but if you listen deeper you will find traces of R&B, Indie Rock and even Hip Hop throughout the very layered tracks Bundick produces. READ MORE

Alexandre Herchcovitch’s Royal Gypsy Trend for FW 2010

For Fall/Winter 2010 Alexandre Herchcovitch went Royal Gypsy on us, and nearly knocked me off my chair with his historical references and meticulously styled headdresses. Gypsy trends definitely have a past life nostalgia in my book so it is hard to recreate that fantasy with the wonderment that Herchcovitch fulfilled in my heart. Turbans dripping with chains, beads and bells were only a highlight of the beautiful story he told for fw 2010.  Stay tuned for the recap of the full collection in the SPFW review. Coming up shortly.

Dam-Funk: 10 West

It has been said that there is a song for every moment.  Dam-Funk makes music for the time when you want to chill out.  His synth and drum-machine based boogie-funk creates a spacey, mellow mood.  What more could you expect from an artist that claims to be “keeping it fantasy,” instead of “keeping it real.”  Dam has remained firm in his approach to keep his focus on the music itself, leaving many of his tracks as full instrumentals.  This is a track off his initial release: Toeachizown, which came as a series of 5 EPs as well as a “best of” two disc set released by Stones Throw Records.  Keep it fantasy y’all.
