As of late, I have really been feeling the sounds of Brooklyn (by way of San Francisco) trio Lemonade. To follow up their 2008 self-titled debut, the band is about to drop an EP entitled Pure Moods on the “buzz factory” True Panther Sounds label (newly acquired by Matador). The first track released from the EP is a track called “Lifted” and it puts a smile on my face. The track starts out with a xylophone riff and hand claps that meet a drum machine for the beat. Soon you are acquainted with sampled splattered sounds and laughter, world like percussion including a steel drum, but it isn’t until vocalist Callan Clendenin drops that first verse that you really understand what you’re getting; a soulful, electro slow jam. “I said oh girl/ where you going to/ I see my whole life come together around you.” Enjoy getting lifted.

Duck Sauce is a collaboration between Armand Van Helden and A-Trak. They decided to team up and create some disco house tunes in a 2009 way and so far so good. As they put it ” its melding the spirit of classic disco house with modern day production thump and clever new twists”. To break it down in lay man terms: they update the old with the new to create the future. To get a little more info and hear them talk about the project check out this interview here. Enjoy…

Hot Chip have been one of my favorite bands for a while. One thing in particular that I enjoy about them is that they are always altering their sound. From their first album, Coming on Strong, to 2006′s release, The Warning, to 2008′s, Made in the Dark. With their recent release, One Life Stand, they have switched gears again and moved towards a more mellow, toned-down tempo. Which means that you probably won’t be hearing any of their songs spinning in clubs. However, all of the elements that make Hot Chip great are still intact. They still have the tongue-in-cheek sense of humor about their lyrics(see the new album name and track with same title), they still have the same catchy melodies and dual vocals of Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor, and they can still make a damn good tune. One Life Stand seems to be more about love and feelings rather than wrestling, repetitive songs, etc. This song, Alley Cats, was played on tour in 2009, and is finally now on an album. If you saw them live last year, there is a chance that you heard it. If you’ve had the chance to see and experience Hot Chip in concert, then you know that everything you hear live is bound to be a little different (and usually a little bit better) than the album recording. Enjoy and look for them coming to a city near you soon!

There is a stunning collection circulating the fashion airwaves at the moment, it is Adel Kovac‘s collection for ‘Love Carpet‘ and it is probably best known for one thing, her complimentary use of nude and black. Silhouettes are unfortunately not the talking point. It is a Security Tag Dress…
