I had to go old school for this week, mainly because I can’t get enough of this song. Hopefully you’ll feel the same. Before there was Van Morrison there was Them. I mean they were Them. I mean, err…never mind. Founded in 1964 out of Belfast, the band released one single unsuccessfully before going in to record their version of Big Joe Williams, “Baby Please Don’t Go.” The band’s manager brought in session musicians to help record, one of them being none other then Jimmy Page. After a television debut the song jumped up to no. #26 on the charts and eventually cracked the top ten. And on the records B-side, Van Morrison’s now-legendary “Gloria“.

Industrial designer Frank Buchwald spent 10 years perfecting the concept and execution of his machine lights. Buchwald describes his machine lights as “beings with an own nature”. The manually produced lights take 4 or more weeks to produce, depending on the model. The series currently has 12 different models, which range from 2000 to 10,000 euro. Each light machine is comprised of up to 200 unique parts, so imagine the intricacy of the assemblage that goes into each piece. Pretty impressive little objects!

Dubstep is making massive waves in the UK and is finally starting to garner some attention on this side of the pond. And the latest U.K breakout dubstep artist/producer Rusko has gone in on Tupac’s California love, and by gone in I mean he has taken the best part of the song which is “Roger Troutman’s talk-box verse “California love” and turned it into a banger. Though not your typical dubstep track it definitely shows the growth in the genre in terms of adopting new styles and elements. It still retains the essence of a 2tep/dubstep track which is the dark bassline. For once I wish I was from Cali so I can sing along to this with pride.
