Di Lu: Winner of the 2010 Lacoste Elysee Prize

This year winner of the Lacoste Elysee Prize 2010 is Di Liu, a 25 year old Chinese photographer that focuses on the conflicting relationship between nature and human society, which is created by the phenomenal rate of Chinese urban development. The jury was particularly impressed by the quality and humor of the three images submitted by the young nominee.

My work is about the conflicting relationship between nature and human society, which is created by the phenomenal rate of Chinese urban development,” said Liu.

In the images created for the Lacoste Elyse?e Prize, I have chosen three animals: a deer, a rhinoceros and a rabbit. These animals have become an overwhelming part of daily life in the city represented.

As consumer merchandise, the L.12.12 polo shirt is the exact opposite of nature. However, by choosing an animal as its symbol, Lacoste reflects nature’s spirit. Thus, Lacoste imports an element of nature into people’s daily lives.

I do the same in my work, and have therefore chosen to let the L.12.12 become an integral part of it. If you look very closely, you will notice three polo shirts, one in each image.
