Mother of Pearl A/W 11 Collection

This mix of chic tailored sportswear with color blocking, slogans and unique prints is British brand Mother of Pearl sports-luxe signature style for Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. This season designer Maia Norman has collaborated with Turner prize winning British artist Keith Tyson on five prints for the collection. The striking results can be seen on a unisex tee shirt in three prints and knitted unisex sweaters in two prints which beautifully marry art and fashion. Tyson is renowned for exploring the mysteries and complexities of human experience through painting.

Two of the prints used for the collection are taken from ‘The Final Day was yesterday’ and ‘May 2002- Time travelling with the Clouds’.
Protection from the elements influences the collection, with pieces such as the new ‘dry bag’ inspired concept, hunting inspired head-gear and leather rain hats. The latter have been created in conjunction with the Milliner Justin Smith Esquire.

Key pieces include Sporty polo shirt style tops and dresses with practical and sporting finishes such as removable quilted linings. Leather rain coats come in an array of strong earthy colors such as burgundy, mustard and orange.

Knitwear is introduced for the first time this season; the mix of wool jersey, raw cut leather, woven jacquards and printed silks create a collection that is rich, tactile and luxurious.

In addition Pierre Hardy have collaborated with Mother of Pearl on two sneakers with Keith Tyson prints and two color blocked wedge sandals.

Cream, navy, red and grey create the foundation of the color palette, with contrasting finishes of green and pink. Vibrant colors teamed with strong prints provide a punchy counterpoint to the clean silhouettes and practicality of the collection.
