Phillip Lim has become king of retail separates. He always nails the street trend on top of the head, or maybe its that he sets it. That sounds more like it! When asked about his 3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 2012 collection Lim brought up childhood references like kites and spoke nostalgically about Jil Sander and Helmut Lang in the 90′s. You can see all of those points of reference as a guiding light throughout the collection. The soft palette also showed that this collection came from a very innocent and cherished place in his life. I really liked Reed Krakoff’s S/S 2012 collection, especially the rigid suit-like looks. The bonded cotton used in the “suiting” gave a really streamlined look to the silhouette, and was shouting woman in power! His use of contrast fabrication and color blocking in other looks also gave the collection a really nice and graphic feel. Strong, bold lines were very refreshing for this NYFW, so much of what we saw felt really light and billowy. READ MORE

Who needs a runway show when you have Maggie Gyllenhaal to do the job? Opting to bypass the hustle and bustle of fashion week, Vena Cava’s Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock simply hosted a dinner and invited 12 friends and muses—the likes of Stephanie LaCava, Kate Young, Nora Zehetner, Tennessee Thomas, and Lily Kwong—to model their Spring collection.
The newest personality to strike a pose in their pieces is the ever-cool Maggie Gyllenhaal. “Maggie was our ideal woman to represent Vena Cava,” says Lisa. “She’s a movie star in the traditional sense, but also has the modern-day qualities we admire READ MORE

“It was about light and flight,” was what Wayne Lee said when asked to describe her collection. We saw quite a bit of white in this NYFW, which is always nice and refreshing, but a lot of it also shared other similar characteristic like the layering and flowing fabrics. Though it was a small selection there was some really nice construction going on in the Wayne S/S 2012 collection that is worth highlighting. READ MORE

What do you think of when you hear Orient-Express? To many of you who have heard of it, you most likely associate the name with an old train, as I did. But after a pleasant breakfast at Club 21 a few days ago with some of the Orient-Express team I found out that Orient-Express is a whole lot more than a luxury train. The company owns 50 luxury hotels, restaurants, tourist trains and river barges in 24 countries. We are talking elite adventure status!
You can watch the videos below to see where they went. I really like the vibe of these videos, they made me think of Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited. The series feels very authentic.

The Row’s S/S 2012 collection was as elegant as could be. The mega-celebrity twin duo stopped surprising me a season or two ago and now I just expect this caliber of work from their collections. They mentioned being inspired by Tibet. You could definitely sense that in the silhouettes and spirituality of the collection. The pale palette and light fabrications were contrasted with beautifully integrated novelty accents like the shell buttons. READ MORE
