Ludachrist : Pon De Foley

Posted by
25 Mar 2010

Ludachrist is Knick of Evol Intent (Los Angeles) and Dr. Ray Boardman M.D. aka Ewun (Rochester, NY).

“Although Ludachrist has love for mankind in general, one thing is clear, there is no room in his kingdom for out of key mash-up mixes, and sloppy programming. His mission, to slay all who oppose the total and complete rule of Ludachrist.
- 1 Cor. 13:4, 15:12-19″

For their latest release Ludacrist ingeniously blends the infamous theme from Beverly Hills Cop and Major Lazers 09 hit Pon de Floor.  It is essentially kitchy electronic dancehall music (which im sure Diplo appreciates), but who doesnt need more ways to enjoy the Beverly Hills Cop theme?

Joker : Digidesign

Posted by
11 Mar 2010

Dubstep started in the early 2000′s in London and has since made its way across the pond and flooded clubs and indie radio stations in the States with wobbly bass lines and 2-step rhythms. While artists like Skream, Rusko, and Caspa had major roles in getting dubstep where it is today, the future of it can be heard in Digidesign from Joker. Joker is not new to the scene however, his underground hit ‘Baggy Bottom Boys’ was every djs go to track in 2009. With Digidesign we see a departure from the standard and almost cliched deep bass, heavily shuffled or syncopated, and instead are given a bouncy, reverberant, and lustrous rhythm.

RSD is Rob Smith.  Rob has been making heavy bass rhythms for about two decades out of Bristol.  His early beginnings were in garage and reggae, then quickly moved into the dj scene where he helped produce Massive Attacks first single “Any Love”.   When asked to describe his music he replied – “I guess a simple description would be dubstep with an accent on the reggae and dub side of things.”  His sets are are not traditional dub sets in that they have noticeable reggae elements, and more vocals than usual.

Platonic solids in the modern era

Posted by
06 Mar 2010

There are exactly five plantonic solids; Tetrahedron, Cube, Octahedron, Dodecahedron, Icosahedron.  While they might sound fancy they are actually the most basic building blocks that can be reduced to.  They are named for the ancient Greek philosopher Plato who theorized that the classical elements were constructed from the regular solids.  Algorithmic scripting is allowing designers to create new forms for the 21st era using Plato’s solids.
