London College of Fashion MA 2012 : Poemtry Presentation

For the second year in a row, London College of Fashion MA 2012 students showcased their graduate collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum on February 2nd. Tradition and innovation went hand-in-hand down the runway of the “Poemtry” presentation, where the last collection was a contradiction to the next. kaleidoscopic patterns, nudes, luxurious golds, quirky shapes and impeccable construction characterized these imaginative future fashion talents.

TINA ELISABETH REITER – THE SOUND OF HOMELESS(NESS): Winner of the “Menswear Collection of The Year”, Austrian born and raised Tina Elisabeth Reiter was inspired by the contemporary feeling of belonging in a globalized world and seeking your roots in it. For that, she infused elements of traditional Austrian folk costumes, connecting them to the myth of the alps & the musical “Sound of music”, all in a vintage color palette.

EMILY SEUL KI UHM – VISUAL ILLUSION THROUGH TEXTILE: Two means dominate, Emily Seul Ki Uhm’s MA collection as its title reveals: vision and textile. I would like to add color, too. Classic lines are completely camouflaged and transformed by the addition of  transparencies at the hemlines, playful color-blocking and minimalistic geometrical patterns.

SUMYU LI – DELICACY IN MOTION: Sumyu Li created mens knitwear which topped womens envy-worthy list. Definitely delicacies. Sculptural creations that ranged mainly in the hues of white and grey, gave out innovative impression and high-quality hand-craftmanship.

MING-PIN TIEN – METAPHORICAL DISTANCE: For “Metaphorical Distance”, Ming-Pin Tien also focused on the hues of white for the clothes, and on nude for the leather body-gear.Very clean-cut collection that would’ve passed along the message of innocence, if it wasn’t for the body-gear adding something of a hardcore. Statement piece: the hunchbacked coats.

WAN YING VIGIN LO – SPACE TOUCH EMOTION: The relationship between space, touch and emotion through human communication is the design theme of Wan Vigin Lo’s MA collection. All these three elements interact with each other to create different levels of interstitial space between the body and the garment, as a boundary between the outside world and us.

GEOFFREY JIANFENG HUANG – ILLUSION: Geoffrey Jianfeng Huang creates a black-and-white color-blocking, experimenting on linear illusions, either partially or totally on the garment, with a result very intricate to the eye.
