New York Fashion Week F/W 2010 Runway Review

Nostalgia Anew: Serenity Subversive

“It’s refreshing to see something that isn’t trying so hard to be new. There’s so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new.” – Marc Jacobs

Tough lowered its guard for the farewell wave to Bryan Park. And that was that. New York was quiet. Muted – the palette and the message both. Inspired by sleep, it felt like it. Not that we mind ambiguity every once in a while.

DAVIDELFIN rearranged garment parts like puzzle pieces. Suggested interpretations of the approach: reconsider where to wear your wares, or waste-not want-not.

HELMUT LANG (inspiration “urban expansion”) and HERVE LEGER (quite obviously related) showed triangles, diamonds and columns supporting sculpted tops. Lang’s graphic prints looked the nightlights below Leger’s scaffolding bodices.
