Nneka’s “My Home” rides in on a classical piano intro taking turns at an unexpected reggae avenue to end at a fearless 60’s rendition of modern Motown rock. Enters the horns, and the sedated reggae beats again. The African folk-soul is a tell-tale of her Nigerian home, where she left to pursue a degree and music simultaneously. The undeniable beauty, Nneka Egbuna, grooves to her own authentic vocal sound. Apart from 2006’s Victim of Truth (never released on iTunes), Concrete Jungle is her debut and R&B-infused compilation of songs to date. Although she started off from the roots of traditional African music, hip-hop became her obsession, drinking in Mobb Deep, Nas and Mos Def. As she told Earmilk, “Hip hop is not just music: it’s a movement. Either you’re part of it, or you’re not…”
