Romanian designer Olah Gyarfas is the man behind the fictional Baron he created to represent his label Rozalb de Mura. Oozing in its avant-garde aesthetics, Rozalb de Mura’s SS 2010 collection seems to be strongly influenced by primitive tribal costumes. “The two outfits can be composed, deconstructed and built again – like some disintegrable antique robots – in tens of perfectly wearable components.”

Last weekend we were shopping at L’Eclarieur’s first ever shop in Paris and going nuts over the Miharayasuhiro selection they had. The dude is a pure genius, but we already knew that since he is our favorite Japanese designer, and always produces a collection that makes our top picks of the season list, (see reviews here). This collection by Graham Tabor for his SS 09 presentation surpasses all tests of time. Seasons become so impertinent in collections with such conceptual stature and the work remains as a body of art ~ expression. Tabor is inspired by what he calls an “archaeological dig: each fragment separate from the rest, almost veiling its origin. Translucent like tracing paper, constructed of torn stitches, openwork and punctuations, the clothes form a complex game of superimposition.”

Now here is a collection full of historic references and inspirations. The Gemma Slack AW 09/10 Collection inspires from so many different cultures, time periods and concepts but somehow they all come together seamlessly on this one platform. For her second collection, Gemma Slack channels Contemporary Armor, using unfinished leather and woven together hardware unconventional for the world of fashion. Her 2 year apprenticeship with Gareth Pugh has without a doubt left a carbon footprint on her very distinct style.
Each piece within in this collection is a reflection of her story. The print she created for this collection is her idea of “digital smoke, reminiscent of burning church thuribles.” The stark sensibility of the collection is beautifully portrayed by photographer Brooke Nipar in these images.

Tailored to perfection and fabricated to make you swoon, Kostas Murkudis delivers yet another breathtaking, avant-garde/minimalist collection. Always finding a way to take a simple silhouette and make it into wearable art, Murkudis uses the autum/winter 09/10 collection to explore color-blocking through use of fabrication. Using poly/nylon as a contrast fabric on these sophisticated wool garments is exactly the kind of divergence Murkudis has made me anticipate in each upcoming collection of his.
