As the summer arrives and things heat up the Montreal smooth synth-sters, Chromeo return with some wise words to save some electricity with their first single “Don’t Turn The Lights On” off of their upcoming album “Business Casual”. The song sounds like their take on Hall & Oates’ “I Can’t Go For That” which is not surprising since they have been spending quite a lot of time with Daryl Hall himself. Read the full story

I appoint Penguin Prison the ambassador of 21st Century Pop. He marks the return of polished Pop – full of catchy hooks, falsetto vocal harmonies, and pristine production. Oh and of course, irresistibly danceable. Musically and vocally he can produce anything that Justin Timberlake or even George Michael could get behind. It is only a matter of time before Penguin Prison’s music is stuck in all of our heads. Read the full story

Electronica saw a lot of expansion in the last half of the naughty ought’s. While greats like Tiesto and Oakenfold reined the heavens of yore while playing out Vegas residencies, the genres that brought you John Coltrane and Daft Punk spawned a generation of live electronica that marries the inspiration of ethereal synths with the draw of a good band. Don’t believe me? Get to know STS9 and EOTO. In the meantime, meet Pretty Lights…

Still reeling from Coachella weekend and nursing a cold to boot, we’re gonna keep things a little simple for this week. Formed in 2007, GIRLS are from San Francisco. They’re not girls. Mostly. The band has received critical acclaim from the New York Times and Pitchfork Media as well as numerous other print and digital outlets. Their album “Album” (September 2009, True Panther Sounds) reached #136 on the Billboard 200. “Laura” is a great modern day love song pulling strong influence from the likes of the venerable Elvis Costello while still managing to stand out in it’s own right. Right? Read the full story
