The Paula Cooper Gallery in New York will present an exhibition of works by Roy Lichtenstein from his celebrated Entablatures series. The paintings, realized between 1971 and 1976, will be on view from September 17 through October 22, 2011. The entablature is an architectural element resembling a band or molding lying horizontally above the columns of a building. This is super cool looking, but what is it? That was my question to the artist, Peter Nencini. “This is a limited edition of boxed artworks, for Partners & Spade’s store. It’s from a running project, called ‘Handwerk’. This translates into German simply more or less as ‘craft’ but for me the implication is more to do with an action and a tactile thinking,” responded Nencini.

Here is a really nice selection of graphic paintings on paper and wood by Charlie Edmiston. Some of his colorful linear abstractions are designed as a sequence while others stand alone, but even the sequenced pieces work really well when separated from their series. A great way to add some color ans shape to any wall.

Viennese artist Florian Pumhösl considers his works to be set at the edge between art, archival research, and critic thinking. His hyper graphic and modernist series shown here is synthetic resin lacquer on reverse of sheet glass. I love the minimalistic lines that fill his frame.

Norwegian artist Kjell Varvin is well known for his installations which I would describe as constructed geometric minimalism. The artist takes found objects and creates temporary ways to make them coexist in a kind of “vulnerable harmony”.
