Trendland’s Halloween mixtape, Bloody Good

A howling wind bursts through a haunted house, blowing open a squeaky door separating the helpless protagonist and Halloween‘s Michael Myers. Cue the music. Cue the senses. What stimulates fear in any lovable horror movie, or any film for that matter, is the soundtrack. It is music alongside visuals that evokes mirrored audience emotions of a story’s characters or climaxes. It’s why big, scary sharks will forever own those two simple, yet unforgettable repeated piano notes (thanks to Jaws). It’s why dark, dramatized church organs are associated more with Dracula than Sunday morning.

Bloody Good is a bit of the dark, eerie sounds you might expect to hear on this spooky holiday, and in most of your favorite screamer flicks of the season. As some of these dance-tastic tracks imply, we mustn’t forget that this day is also dedicated to the love of pranks, trick-or-treating, and dressing in disguise! Charlie Chaplin, Dracula, and zombies, oh my! If Halloween or graveyards had contracted entertainment, Dead Man’s Bones would be the go-to band. Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields teamed up to form a Gothic, gospel production with major help from The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children’s Choir. The two requested the choir of children to do what any normal kid lives to do, play dress-up. Read the full story

For the next two weeks (Oct 15-31), Gallery 151 will be promoting Green Halloween Bazaar, a national movement that encourage the creative aspects of Halloween while suggesting alternatives for the excessive consumerism brought by the holiday. The Green Halloween Bazaar will bring together numerous NYC artist, fashion stylists and costumers and have their garments for display, purchase or rental. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to Green Halloween NYC.

Halloween is a few days away and if you are still struggling to figure out what to be, here are a few fashion-inspired costumes I put together. And, the best part…most of these costumes include items you probably already own, chic and cheap!

Roberto Cavalli dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld for his Halloween Ball in New York last night. The hair,the sunglasses, the black and white…he really has a great sense of humor.

We all know by now that Halloween is just an excuse to get ho’ed out, show as much skin as possible and get laid easily. Well its been a full week of Halloween events. People started dressing up last Thursday and the festivities continued thru last night. Saturday night I had a serious check when I went to a Party in the Hollywood Hills, which I would only find out was a porn party after arriving. I was dressed as a tennis club member from Club 55, St. Tropez (1970’s). I didn’t feel like getting fully decked out 5 days before Halloween so I played it safe and subtle. Big mistake! Somehow being the most dressed made me feel the most exposed and I was the target of porn stars. So last night I had to get in my sexy time. Couldn’t get naked but had to show a little of the fierce woman power, and Cat Woman was the fix for me.
