Helmut Lang Translates His Years in Fashion into Art

Abstract and conceptual, as everything is in the mind of Helmut Lang, is his latest work entitled, “Make it Hard”. In this art exhibit, which recently showcased at The Fireplace Project in East Hamptons, “Lang has shredded his entire archive, after donating the rest of his collected work to worldwide fashion, design and contemporary art collections, to make 16 sartorial sculptures. Mixing his own history, original claim to fame and a current back mirror view of his past as a fashion designer with his personal experiences of late Read the full story

New York Fashion Week F/W 2010 Runway Review

Nostalgia Anew: Serenity Subversive

“It’s refreshing to see something that isn’t trying so hard to be new. There’s so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new.” – Marc Jacobs

Tough lowered its guard for the farewell wave to Bryan Park. And that was that. New York was quiet. Muted – the palette and the message both. Inspired by sleep, it felt like it. Not that we mind ambiguity every once in a while. Read the full story

Helmut Lang SS10 Collection

helmut lang-ss10-1

It’s that time again to introduce a new season, SS10 shows are upon us and the trade shows have begun their global trotting. With that said I would like to open up the SS10 collection reviews with Helmut Lang. Perfectly tailored, beautiful and timeless silhouettes are staples of Helmut Lang’s collections. I absolutely love the range of looks for next Spring/Summer from the ultra slim fitting harem pant suit there is a seamless transition into a more grungy washed denim look, which repeatedly demonstrates his innate sense of concepting. This collection is a great opener because its like that beautifully stretched canvas too beautiful to even touch with a paintbrush, allowing  us to go anywhere from here.

Kostas Murkudis SS09 Collection

Womens SS09 Collection

Kostas Murkudis was born in Dresden in 1959. As his name suggests, his parents came from Greece. He went to West Berlin as a teenager and studied fashion at the Lette Foundation’s design school. After a short period as a trainee with Wolfgang Joop, he became the right-hand man of Viennese designer Helmut Lang in 1985. Murkudis stood in his “master’s” shadow for a long time, and his style was regarded as kind of “Lang No. 2″; those times are now gone for good. In 1992, Murkudis took the plunge and launched his first collection for women. After a show in Japan, his Paris debut in 1997 caused quite a stir. A menswear collection followed.
