Oh so 60′s! I felt like I traveled back in time to the 60′s as the models strutted down the runway with their long hippie locks paletted in Holly Fulton’s highlighter looks. Holly Fulton has become one of my most anticipated shows for London Fashion Week. Her reoccurring signature Art Deco prints have made me yearn to see her development season after season. For S/S 2012 Holly Fulton delivered another dose of fashion euphoria. What I find so humbling about her collections is her apparent relationship to the the craft and her ability to project her sense of humor/joviality through it, while everyone else seems to take it all so seriously.
Sixties/Art Deco style continues to be the guiding light throughout Holly Fulton’s SS 2011 Collection. Tribal motifs disguised in sky-scrapping architecture consume the garments appearance, and remaining as graphic and bold as ever. Here is a great little video for Test Magazine directed by Quentin Jonesfeaturing Holly Fulton’s SS 2011 Collection.
Holly Fulton is making a name for herself in London with big bold prints and larger than life plastic jewelery. Having already won the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Accessories at the British Fashion Awards 2009. This fresh designer from Scotland’s cut out plastics and chunky swarovski jewels are set to make her one to watch.
For her AW10 presentation at London Fashion week she revisited her love for art deco and 60s graphics. Admitting she was inspired by ‘Louis Barillet, pythons and telephones.” she has stepped it up by adding snake skin, fur and velvet to her collection of sophisticated silhouettes. Over sized coats and dresses covered in print give a Holly Fulton illusion reminiscent of her collection with Fashion East for SS10.
Bold shades of orange, turquoise and yellow bring the colour to the collection with staple monochrome pieces making the most of her art deco-esque geometric prints. In particular the floor length dress teamed with chunky bangles and brogues left me mesmerized. Hypnotized in a catwalk of prints. Living up to the distinctive style fulton has already created for her brand. A successful first solo presentation for Holly fulton.
Scottish designer, Holly Fulton, graduated 10 years ago from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA in Fashion and after graduating in 2007 with her MA at the Royal College of Art in London, is now showing her latest “art deco style” collection ! Shown as part of Fashion East, she has collaborated with CRYSTALLIZEDSwarovski Elements to help add the extra sparkle to her stand out collection. Her style reminds me a lot of Mary Katrantzou. See her outstanding first runway collection video (below)! She’s definitely a designer to watch!
