Night Light is Brooklyn-based lady trio Au Revoir Simone remixed. It is the fraternal twin to their beloved original album, Still Night, Still Light,  retold and mastered  by Neon Indian, Jens Lekman, Dam Mantle, Montag, Aeroplane, among others. Kisses are a two-piece based out of Los Angeles, CA. “Bermuda” is gonna be released as a 7 inch single this April through Surrounded By Sound which is some sort of off shoot having to do with Force Field PR. I’d give a link for Surrounded By Sound but it’s just a myspace page with 2 friends on it. I think they might be laundering money. joke. Be sure to check out the rest of Forcefield’s roster, they have a pretty solid line up.

Little Dragon : Test

A good portion of the universe should know about Little Dragon by now; they are far from little. The city of Gothenburg in Sweden [well, Sweden in general] seems to be the mother that births all catchy loveable music. The Knife, Jose Gonzalez, and Jens Lekman to name a few others. The lead singer of Little Dragon, Yukimi, has a jazz vocal background which is evident in her highly addictive soulful voice; the perfect main ingredient for such a musical meal. There are girls that sound black but are actually white, but this femme sounds black but is actually Japanese! Listen to one single song one single time and you’re hooked, no matter the mood you’re currently in or attempting to channel in the near future. This particular song speaks of the obstacle course we call life that stresses us then rests us, tests us and depresses us. Emotions darken and lighten as minds get lost over and over again just to find another way back with an entirely different view. Test is actually from their 2007 self titled [and first] album but don’t think they broke up and went solo like all the rest; they released a new album recently by the name of Machine Dreams.

Jens Lekman : A Postcard to Nina

Besides being incredibly engaging and peaceful, this song contains one of the most intricate, funny, tragic, and entertaining stories ever squeezed into song-form.* My favorite parts are when Jens watch Nina’s eyebrows for a clue of how to answer her father’s questions, and that he sends back “out of office auto-replies” after the father tries to befriend him. It’s also very sweet that he goes to such lengths for a girl he is in love with, even though she’s a lesbian.

Siah and Yeshua DaPoEd’s “A Day Like No Other” falls in this category, but its twice as long. So does “Ode to
Billie Joe.” What are some other top-notch story-songs?
