The anticipated news of Kostas Murkudis SS 2010 has finally arrived to sweep our fashion hearts away, encore une fois. These gently tattered beauties walk in and out of each frame with a lucid softness that encompasses all of Murkudis’s collections. For Spring/Summer 2010 the designer was inspired by René Lalique, the “inventor of modern jewellery” and icon of the French Art Nouveau. Murkudis relates to the translucent colour techniques from Lalique’s watercolours by translating them onto silk. Click here to see reviews on past collections by Kostas Murkudis.

Tailored to perfection and fabricated to make you swoon, Kostas Murkudis delivers yet another breathtaking, avant-garde/minimalist collection. Using poly/nylon as a contrast fabric on these sophisticated wool garments is exactly the kind of divergence Murkudis has made me anticipate in each upcoming collection of his.

Womens SS09 Collection

Kostas Murkudis was born in Dresden in 1959. As his name suggests, his parents came from Greece. He went to West Berlin as a teenager and studied fashion at the Lette Foundation’s design school. After a short period as a trainee with Wolfgang Joop, he became the right-hand man of Viennese designer Helmut Lang in 1985. Murkudis stood in his “master’s” shadow for a long time, and his style was regarded as kind of “Lang No. 2″; those times are now gone for good. In 1992, Murkudis took the plunge and launched his first collection for women. After a show in Japan, his Paris debut in 1997 caused quite a stir. A menswear collection followed.
