Marni’s S/S 2012 collection is said to be its strongest to date, if only for the fact that it stood against the tide of frills and fancy common to the season, and delivered a line of clean, clear cuts. As a designer with no training in fashion, Consuelo Castiglioni is more known for her quirky, idiosyncratic style—charming, one-of-a-kind pieces that look as if you got them from Grandma. This S/S 2012, however, Consuelo seems to have sorted things out, without losing her signature touch.

Despite a very short record of menswear, Marni is quickly  carving its niche in the market. Graphic, simple silhouettes, with great details continue to be Marni’s signature spirit, even for menswear. Loving to color blocking on the pants and shorts and the pop of color on the collars.

Consuelo Castiglioni is a sportswear genius! I was so happy with the range in Marni’s SS 2011 Collection. The collection was full of playful elements layered on top of each other with no fear. Her seaming and paneling gave the collection an abstracted notion of scuba-wear. The Marni women is definitely sophisticated but she values expressing her boldness and creativity through her wardrobe.

For next years 70th anniversary of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, Hong Kong shoe boutique On Pedder has partnered with Warner Bros to commission the most trendy fashion designers to create their own interpretation of the famous red shoes for a modern Dorothy. Including Bruno Frisoni, Alexander McQueen, Erickson Beamon, Giuseppe Zanotti, Pierre Hardy, Marni‘s hi-tech heels (that play ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ when plugged in) and Stella McCartney‘s strapped sandals or even Azzedine Alaia’s sparkly ballet pumps, the creations are a true homage to the legendary film.

The shoes were unveiled at the On Pedder flagship store on 21 November. At the end of the exhibition, the shoes – including a replica of the original pair worn by Judy Garland in the film – will be sold off in a silent auction and the proceeds donated to charity.
