Think of it like Grease, but without the raucous T-Birds boys—and a lot, LOT more glamorous. We’ve seen the images of Prada’s Steven Meisel-shot Spring 2012 campaign, but the newly released motion picture that goes along with it still takes my breath away. Prim and oh-so proper models, pastel perfect vintage cars, and twisting close-up shot angles really bring the brand’s pieces to life.

And the location itself—an anywhere-USA gas station set to a yummy blue sky—is the perfect setting to the 50s Americana fantasy film.

I dont know if I liked them or if I think they are cheesy, but Prada is offering something new in terms of womens shoe design. For their 2012 Spring collection they designed high heels and stilettos inspired by classic 50′s cars. Prada has always been very creative with their lookbooks. Once again thinking outside the box, they hired extremely talented Illustrators, Art Directors and CG artists. Their latest ‘MotionBook’ (or Video lookbook) is a real piece of art ! Titled Real Fantasies they used the service of Director/producer James Lima, Art Direction/Artwork by OMA and photography by Phillip Meech to create this awesome 2min psychedelic video – Have a look below.

New collections are always said to be the designer’s “most personal one to date”, but in the case of Prada’s S/S 2012, it’s honestly the best description you can come up with. The season’s assortment of below-the-knee skirts, twinsets, and long boxy jackets are pieces we’d expect to find in Miuccia Prada’s own wardrobe. For their new ‘Minimal-Baroque’ eyewear capsule S/S 2011 collection Prada hired three up and coming illustrators  – Marcela Gutierres, Andrea Tarella and Ivo Bisignano, to do their sunglasses lookbook, hand picked by Muiccia Prada herself. I am loving the Guiterres and Tarella work but not a fan at all of Bisignano’s one. Which one is your favorite?

Here is the latest Prada Campaign for their womenswear SS 2011 Collection photographed by Steven Meisel featuring Mariacarla Boscono, Arizona Muse, Kinga Razjak, Zuzanna Bijoch, and Tati Cotliar. I have to say that I am a much bigger fan of the collection after seeing this campaign than I was when I saw the runway presentation. I don’t know if the styling is better or if it only seems that way because of the grouping of looks in each shot.

Like every season, we review the artsy ‘Fantasy lookbook‘ of Prada. For the Fall/Winter 2010 the illustrations are by Alexander Reichert & Fausto Fantinuoli with mostly backstage pictures shot by Phil Meech and the same art direction team as the previous seasons  (OMA).
