A song can sing a thousand words, but Tourist‘s “Placid Acid” has to sing for itself. Not one lyric reaped could sow such a stammeringly psychedelic vibe: Read the full story

Man, oh, Portugal. The Man. Is it the Alaskan air you were bred in? Is it the small town musicophilia? Is it your hippie roots? I don’t know what gives you that stand-out flair, but if you can’t tell, I’m more than smitten with your newest single, “So American.” If anyone anywhere ever tried to walk out on this song, good luck. It would catch you like a sweater pocket on a doorknob–not only would you lack any desire to detach yourself, you’d stay stuck there…for the entire 3 minutes and 36 seconds of dreamy wonder. Don’t be scared. Monster Rally breaks it down nice and easy for you with mellow waves of psychedelic surf-pop. In fact, the monster himself, Ted Feighan, doesn’t snarl, growl, or even speak a word on any of his records from what I’ve heard. Although the Deep Sea EP–his newest set of soothers–has just recently been released in time for summer, I stuck to my affinity for a good ‘ole fashion bass and beachy instrumentals. Psychedelic garage band, Mini Mansions, is an American modern-day Beatles, if you put aside their ethereal, grunge-goth sound not too far from a more pop-inclined Pink Floyd. “Monk” shows the whimsical side of their many catchy tunes off the LA threesome’s self-titled debut album. Although, “Kiddie Hypnogogia” is a perfectly nostalgic fit for Read the full story

United Kingdom’s Chad Valley is an upcoming group with sounds compared to Washed out, Neon Indian, and Million Young. The infusion of psychedelic and indie sounds is what makes Chad Valley so recognizable and hard to turn your ears away from. Lead singer Hugo Manuel really draws you in with his soothing and melodic voice, and it’s no wonder this band is on a non stop tour through the U.K. Read the full story

The unsigned duo known as Low Sea (currently based in Ireland) just released their album Las Olas in Feb of 2010 and there is definitely something to be said about their unique indie-psychedelic sound. They are relatively new on the scene but evidently have had no problem finding their own niche and their own distinct style. This track “Alex” is off their new album and I think it highlights the potential these two possess. The classic, sexy french vocals of Billie(vox/guitar/percussion) fuse with the ambient layered arrangement of synthetic and acoustic sounds created by Bobby D (guitar/bass/sounds) and the synthesis is undoubtedly something special.
