Nostalgia Anew: Serenity Subversive

“It’s refreshing to see something that isn’t trying so hard to be new. There’s so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new.” – Marc Jacobs
Tough lowered its guard for the farewell wave to Bryan Park. And that was that. New York was quiet. Muted – the palette and the message both. Inspired by sleep, it felt like it. Not that we mind ambiguity every once in a while. Read the full story

Of all the Pre Fall 09 Collection I have seen so for far, Zac Posen‘s is by far the most exciting. Posen was able dial into a period by creating a collection that is closely inspired by the 1920′s – 1940′s, yet doesn’t look like anything we have directly seen from this time. I obviously love historical inspirations just as much as conceptual ones, but there is much more of a restriction in the historical reference which can take the ingenuity out of a collection based on something specific. I felt that Posen explored deep within this period and the limits of reinventing something fresh and new. I love the color palette, his take on the flapper dresses and most of all the military inspired power suit.
