Takaya Hanayuishi

Coming from a culinary background, Takaya Hanayuishi made the move from food to fauna in 2004, introducing a new style of hairdressing that incorporates freshly-cut flowers and vegetables. These days, his one-of-a-kind craftsmanship is being commissioned for weddings, live performances, and media companies.

Using the same attention and care used to prepare a complex dish, the self-taught artist first affixes the bouquet of plants to styled hair, carefully arranges them like a florist, and only then gets to work pruning them with a pair of hairdressing scissors. Takaya describes himself as “the one who ties together flower and person”, and makes sure every single masterpiece is cut especially to fit the individual’s face and dress.
