The Swedish indie-pop band that got their name from a gas-station-turned-radio-repair-shop called “Radioavdelningen” (The Radio Dept.) has until recently been somewhat under the radar. The band was formed back in 1995 but since then has undergone quite a bit of transformation and at times even haitus with band members coming and going. Originally founded by Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson, in 1998 Duncanson began making music with Martin Larsson and in 2001 they were joined by Lisa Carlberg (bass), Per Blomgren (drums), and Daniel Tjäder (keyboard). After several years of reassembling and reworking, the group has finally found some solid ground, signing with Labrador Records, one of Swedens respected indie record labels and putting together some pretty impressive tracks.

‘Heaven’s On Fire’ off their new album Clinging To The Scheme (Scheduled to be released online in March 2010), puts you in a happy daze with its melodic dreamy overtone and catchy keyboard riff. The constantly changing instrumentation brings out the groups unique multi-dimensional sound and shines light on their versatility as a whole. I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.
